The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company presents The Blackest Berry: Dancing African Diasporas at the Athenaeum Theater Chicago. Returning to the Windy City for the first time in over 10+ years. Journey with our superb artists throughh the stories of Black history and culture, making a statement on the future of humanity as a whole.
The Blackest Berry: Dancing African Diasporas celebrates Black joy and being wrapped in a blanket of Blackness. A mainstage performance that wraps us all in a rich heritage of storytelling that everyone will be inspired by. The highlight of the evening is a new work by Guggenheim Fellow choreographer, Tommie-Waheed Evans, premiered February 2023 in Dayton titled HOME/An Untitled Portrait. The work is an emergence of choreographic, sonic, and visual practice. Kendrick Lamar's collection of music allows space for a dialogue to take place between the music and dance.
The Blackest Berry will ignite the power of Black dance to redefine the culture of performance and present a new future for dance art.
Do not miss this opportunity to experience the transformational future of art through the perspective of the Black experience, presented by the performative excellence of the DCDC dance artists.
